The Magic of Rarotonga

Having visited Rarotonga many times, my most recent trips in October 2023 and May 2024 were particularly memorable, each unveiling new layers of this enchanting island.

In October 2023, my mornings began at the vibrant Punanga Nui Markets. Every Saturday, the market overflowed with fresh produce, handmade crafts, and the tantalising scents of traditional dishes. The first bite of ika mata, a refreshing raw fish dish, became a market visit staple. Evenings at the Muri Night Markets, under a canopy of stars, were magical. I savoured local delicacies, shared laughter and meals with new friends, and felt a profound sense of belonging.

One unforgettable night, the cultural show at Te Vara Nui Village mesmerised me with rhythmic dances, vibrant costumes, and captivating storytelling, immersing me in the island's rich history.

Adventures abounded in Rarotonga. Swimming with turtles through Aririki Adventures was surreal. Guided by a knowledgeable instructor, I glided through clear waters with a sea scooter, spotting at least 15 majestic turtles. A day trip to Aitutaki, with its crystalline waters and idyllic islands, felt like another world.

For land-based adventure, hiking to "The Needle" offered panoramic views of the island and a refreshing swim at Wigmore’s Waterfall. Dining was an adventure in itself, from breathtaking sunset views at Antipodes to the intimate fine dining at Little Polynesian and the historic charm of Tamarind House.

Rarotonga’s simplicity, warm climate, and friendly locals make it a home away from home. Each visit leaves me with a sense of peace and a treasure trove of memories. If you're looking for a destination that offers both adventure and tranquillity, Rarotonga is the perfect escape.
